I was in my fifth year or so in med school when I suddenly felt the need to have my vag smell like flowers. So, like many of us, I got an intimate wash which I continued to use in spite of the condemnation I felt.
Yeap! It looks shady not to follow medical advice as a medical student. Don’t judge, I know I should have yielded and made Michelle happy and proud— you’re possibly wondering who Michelle is…Not the Obama, my vagina.
Though the vagina might look like rose, it shouldn’t smell like one. “A healthy vagina does not smell like a flower, and any product that makes it smell like one is likely damaging’’.
If you are worried because your vagina doesn’t smell like hyacinth or jasmine, just like Joey in the series ‘Full House’, I say—Cut it out! There’s absolutely no need to have sleepless nights over this. Normal vaginas can smell earthy or ripe, pungent or slightly sour. What is important is that you know what your ‘normal’ is and maintain hygienic habits to keep her healthy and happy.
I could go on and on about the vagina, its sensitivity and dynamics, but I do not trust your attention span. So, lets just have a chat about what I promised in the last post.
You must know by now that we are not having a conversation about how to have a ‘garden-fresh vagina’, and it’s expected if you’re a lil’ disappointed but I’m quite sure we can reach a happy compromise at the end.
Let’s get to it.!
Healthy vagina can smell good in its own unique way and here are great tips for your nether bits:
What you eat affects each and every part of your body—including your vagina.
Certain foods disrupt the vagina’s delicate pH balance, which could lead to an odor that might be off-putting.
The food we eat can impact how the vagina smells and tastes.
Garlic, onions, mint, turmeric, blue cheese, cabbage, cauliflower, asparagus, red meat are vagina villains.
Taking Yogurt, cranberry juice, pineapple, apple, ginger tea, lemon, celery, cinnamon won’t make her smell like black opium, but can influence how she smells tastes and positively.
Eat nutrient-dense fruits and veggies.
NB: Incorporating food into oral sex play can mess with the vaginal pH!
Some say the recipe to having a young, fresh, smooth skin is drinking plenty of water and minding the business that pays you. I’m here to say that it’s also good for your vagina health.
3: Cigarettes and booze
It’s bad for your heart as well as your vagina. Avoid smoking and reduce your alcohol consumption.
What’s great for your heart and vagina is getting regular exercise and managing your stress levels!
Do not wear WET panties.
Wear panties that allows her breathe, wear ‘breatheable’ materials.
Maybe go commando at night!
Don’t wash the inside of your vagina.
Gently use your fingers to clean the outer vagina bits and folds with warm water and nothing else. This will keep dead skin cells, discharge, and other dried bodily fluids from building up in the nooks and crannies of your vulva.
Also, rinse with water after using the toilet and pat dry with a toilet paper or towel.
Always shower after exercise or rigorous activity!
Practice safe sex.
Avoid porous sex toys. Toys with microscopic holes can alter the pH and cause infection because bacteria can lodge in the holes.
7: Menstrual materials
Leaving a tampon, cup or pad in for too long can be dangerous and toxic.
Toxic=unhealthy. Unhealthy=bad smell.
Change your menstrual hygiene materials as early as you can during your period.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: You need to see a DOCTOR if you notice you have any of this:
- vulvar itching
- change in discharge
- a change of odor—especially if it’s a strong, malodorous or fishy smell.
Let’s stop here. It’s been a nice girl chat!I hope you are less disappointed or not at all anymore *winks*
